PART C - Implementation

Here is my podcast:

  1. This is a great podcast - your voice recording comes in very clear. Maybe with a little more practice it could have been smoothed out from the rustling, clicking, and ums. I have a big problem when I podcast with that, and usually have to record it many times.

Again, I really like that you are using wikispaces. You said that you can organize all the teams together in one place. Will the teams then be commenting or communicating with each other? Do all the teams have a different topic? Otherwise, how would you stop students from copying each other. Another question would be about the login. I always struggle with sites that need my students to have a unique login, such as an email. I usually give them one login, and password, but then all their editing would look the same and you wouldn't be able to track individual contributions. Will this be to compose one document or just for conversation?
Wiki can be a great tool, most use google docs, but I am so glad that you are trying to use a different technology in this way!

  2. Wikis can be a powerful collaborative tool. As mentioned, it is a great feature to see the "history" of a particular page. This encourages accountability for all students.

The file type for the podcast was a M4A, which required a download on my computer. You want the podcast to stream right from the Internet...consider changing the format (maybe to a MP3?).

I hope you are able to create a good unit for potential use in the future.

  3. I am not very familiar with WikiSpaces, so it has been interesting to follow your progress through this project. It sounds like it could certainly be used to track group work, and I think that you are correct with your assessment of how it might work. I always do a large group project about the Revolutionary War at the end of the school year, and maybe this year I will implement WikiSpaces to track my students' work. Thank you for your insights, nice work so far.

  4. I never gave any thought in using Wikispaces for a group project, but after seeing how your plan has evolved, I believe it could be a very useful tool for upper elementary and beyond. As you said, most students probably have never used a Wiki in their lives. Therefore, there will be some teaching involved first. Within Wiki, I think the projects tool will be the most important to understand and use as a teacher. It sounds like a wonderful way to organize the groups in one space and see who is making changes and contributing. This is important because as we all know, not everyone participates as much as they should. Great project! I wish you would have had the chance to implement it to see if it would have been successful or not.
